Executive Director, SBAI
Thomas Deinet was appointed Executive Director of the SBAI (previously known as the HFSB) in 2008. In 2007, Thomas joined the working group to project manage the development of practice standards proposed by 14 leading international alternative investment managers that led to the establishment of the SBAI.
Prior to joining the SBAI, he was a senior manager at Oliver Wyman, where he extensively worked with major financial institutions in Europe covering asset management as well as corporate and investment banking. Thomas also worked as an analyst in energy trading for a major commodities trading firm.
Thomas is a graduate of the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, with a major in industrial engineering and holds an MSc from Purdue University, USA. Thomas is a CFA charterholder.
Co-Founder, President and Director of Research, Cheyne Capital Management
Stuart Fiertz is the Co-Founder, President and Director of Research of Cheyne Capital. From 1991 to June 2000, and prior to establishing Cheyne Capital, Stuart worked for Morgan Stanley where he was responsible for the development and implementation of customised portfolio strategies and for credit research in the convertible bond management practice.
Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Stuart was an equity research analyst for the Value Line Investment Survey, and a high yield credit analyst in Boston at Merrill Lynch and in New York at Lehman Brothers. Stuart is a CFA® charterholder and a CAIA designee. He is chairman of the Alternative Credit Council (ACC) and a Founder & Trustee of the Standards Board for Alternative Investments (SBAI). From 2014 until 2020, Stuart was also a council director of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) board.
Stuart has been awarded the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing. Stuart was educated at the International School of Geneva and at Dartmouth College where he was awarded a BA degree in Political Science and Economics.
Head of Private Markets Advisory, UBP
Nicolas Roth joined UBP in 2023 as Head of Private Markets Advisory and has some 22 years of experience in alternative and private asset investments. He previously spent 14 years at REYL Intesa San Paolo where he was Head of Private Assets, managing funds invested in non-performing loans and real estate assets in southern Europe, as well as advising clients on private markets with an emphasis on credit strategies.
Prior to this, he was Head of Alternative Investments, in charge of a number of funds of hedge funds, managed accounts and other related alternative strategies mostly focusing on credit-related strategies. He started his career in 2002 at American Express as a hedge fund analyst covering structured credit strategies and volatility arbitrage.
Nicolas holds an MSc in Quantitative Economics and a DEA in Econometrics from the University of Geneva.
Alternative Credit Strategist, PIMCO
Ms. Medema is an executive vice president and alternative credit strategist in the London office, responsible for credit alternatives and mortgage- and real-estate-related strategies. Previously, she worked in the portfolio management group and focused on mortgage-backed securities and residential whole loans.
Prior to joining PIMCO in 2006, she worked at Deutsche Bank’s Trust & Securities Services Division, specializing in collateralized debt obligations (CDOs).
She has 21 years of investment experience and holds an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles. She also received an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Partner and Head of Portfolio Advisory (EMEA), Albourne Partners
Jessica Ross is a Partner and Head of Portfolio Advisory (EMEA) & European Region Head for Albourne Partners Ltd. She also oversees Albourne’s work on Co-investments and Customized Mandates.
Prior to joining Albourne Jessica ran- multi-asset portfolios for Ultra High-Net worth individuals, and foundations, first at Goldman Sachs, and more recently for a single family office and a multi-family advisor.
CEO, Systematica Investments
Leda acts as CEO of Systematica Investments, an institutional hedge fund manager with approximately $14 billion in AUM and offices in London, Geneva, New York, Singapore, Shanghai and Jersey. Systematica was formed in January 2015 as a spin-off of BlueCrest Capital, where Leda was President and Head of Systematic Trading for 14 years since 2001.
Prior to BlueCrest, Leda was part of Cygnifi Derivatives Services (a J.P. Morgan spin-off). At Cygnifi she was a member of the management team and head of its Valuation Service. Prior to Cygnifi, Leda spent nearly seven years at J.P. Morgan as a Quantitative Analyst in the derivatives research team. Her past experience includes modelling of interest rate exotics, FX/interest rate hybrid instruments and equity derivatives.
She holds a PhD in Engineering from Imperial College London, where she worked as a lecturer and led research projects for over three years prior to joining J.P. Morgan. In addition, Leda has served on the advisory board of the pension fund of the CERN in Geneva and on the advisory board of the London School of Economics' Systemic Risk Centre. Leda currently serves on the board of trustees of the SBAI – the Standards Board of Alternative Investments and on the NY Fed’s Investor Advisory Committee on Financial Markets (IACFM).
Head of Strategic Asset Allocation, AP4
Magdalena Högberg, CFA is the Head of Strategic Asset Allocation and Quantitative Analysis at the Fourth Swedish National Pension Fund (AP4) in Stockholm. She has been working at AP4 since 2013 focusing on global equities, hedge funds and asset allocation across asset classes and liquidity spectra.
Ms Högberg holds a Master of Science in Engineering Physics from The Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden and a Master of Science in Business and Economics from Stockholm University, Sweden.
Founder & CEO, Qblue Balanced
Bjarne Graven Larsen is a pension fund and financial sector veteran, with more than 30 years of experience in the industry. He is the former Chief Investment Officer and executive board member of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP), one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated pension plans headquartered in Toronto, Canada. From 1999 to 2011, Bjarne was the Chief Investment Officer and executive board member of ATP, Denmark’s largest and Europe’s fourth largest pension fund, and a global pioneer in sustainability integration.
Prior to joining OTPP, Bjarne was the Chair of the Investment Committee at Europe’s leading renewable infrastructure fund, CIP and held the position as CFO at Novo A/S and before that he was the CEO of FIH Erhvervsbank A/S (FIH). Bjarne has also held positions at Realkredit Denmark, the country's largest Mortgage Bank, in Denmark's Central Bank and in the Ministry of Finance. After returning from Toronto in 2018, Bjarne founded the Copenhagen based asset management company, Qblue Balanced.
